“Summer (Mostly) Thursdays”

History
Summer (Mostly) Thursdays is a non-profit arts organization that was created in 2010 to fill the void left in the community after the Bayfield (Mostly) Schubert Festival disbanded due to the retirement of its founder, Dennis Michno. The latter summer series was a solid tradition in Bayfield, WI, attracting standing room only crowds of 70-100 people for most of its concerts from 1997 to 2008.
Five of the musicians from the original series volunteered in 2008 and 2009 to produce a handful of concerts with the hope of assessing and maintaining any accrued community enthusiasm for live music. A decision was made based on audience response, interest from local businesses, commitment from volunteers, and encouragement from the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau to revitalize the series with fresh leadership, updated goals, and a new name while still acknowledging the accomplishments of the Schubert Festival. A steering committee was organized, a fiscal agent was identified, the scope of musical offerings was broadened, and commitments were garnered from performers and volunteers enabling Summer (Mostly) Thursdays to move ahead with its mission.
Mission
The mission of Summer (Mostly) Thursdays is to offer a broad range of music in a variety of settings around Bayfield, WI performed by musicians from the Chequamegon Bay area and beyond. The vision is to ensure a sustainable and successful series of (mostly) summer performance events on (mostly) Thursdays in Bayfield, WI that meet the needs and expectations of that community's faithful concertgoers while attracting new performers, audience members, and patrons of the arts.
Values and Goals
The values and goals of Summer (Mostly) Thursdays are: to nurture younger performers and younger audience members; support professional musicians and composers; increase and maintain opportunities for artistic growth and quality of life for local residents, visitors, and performers; create partnerships that enhance the local economy and tourism; operate in a fiscally responsible manner to identify private and corporate sponsors and seek grant funding; and create a culture of joyful volunteerism vital to the arts life of the community and this organization.
