Dolce Woodwind Quintet
"Summer (Mostly) Thursdays" continues with Minneapolis-based Dolce Wind Quintet featuring flutist Nancy Wucherpfennig, oboist Marilyn Ford, clarinetist Karen Hansen, bassoonist Ford Campbell, and french horn player Vicki Wheeler.
Last December, Dolce Wind Quintet was featured on Classical MPR's Holiday Sampler broadcast hosted by Steve Staruch. Dolce ("Sweet" in Italian) also performed live on-air during MPR Day in Rochester, Minnesota, and for MPR's Music alive event hosted by Alison Young at Calhoun Square in Minneapolis. The Quintet performs for The svhubert Club courtroom Concert series in St. Paul each season and for the Munsinger/Clemens Gardens Concert series in St. Cloud. For the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota, Dolce videotaped a live performance and iinterviews used in music education programs nationwide.
For their Bayfield debut, flutist Nancy Wucherpfennig, oboist Marilyn Ford, clarinetist Karen Hansen, bassoonist Ford Campbell, and french horn player Vicki Wheeler will entertain with a 75 minute lively collage of compositions by Adrien Barthe (Passacaille), Didier Favre (Vent de Folie), Johann Sobeck (Scherzino), August Klughardt (Qunitet, Op. 79), Ferenc Farkas (Early Hungarian Dances), William Grant Still (Folk Suite No. 4), Antonin Dvorak (Slavonic Dance #8), and Scott Joplin (Sugar Cane Rag).
"All 5 of us hold positions with other chamber ensembles and orchestras," says founding member Vicki Wheeler, "but, we are steadfast in our commitment to the wind quintet repertoire." Bassoonist Ford Campbell is quick to add with a smile, "I guess there are 2 ways to enjoy pledging allegiance during this week of celebrations: to country on Independence Day and to wind quintets with Dolce on Summer (Mostly) Thursdays."
This concert is sponsored in part by the Family of Mary Dobson and the Apostle Island Area Community Fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation. There is no admission charge, but free will offerings are encouraged and gratefully accepted. A modest reception follows the concert. Please call 715-682-3272 or 715-779-5490 for more information.
